Dance Team Update – March 2019

Greetings Brothers,

The Group Dance Team is in full swing  as we approach the Section Conference at Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation from April 12-14. At the Section Conference, we will be performing both the Hoop Dance and the Eagle Dance. These two American Indian dances are the dances we performed at the 2018 National Order of the Arrow Conference. At that competition, we took home the title of National Champions. Our Lodge’s Dance Team is very excited to compete at the Section Conference and hopefully win 1st place for the 3rd year in a row!

This year, we have also had many Arrowman show interest in making a set of Individual Dance clothes. Individual dancing takes place in a pow-wow setting, where each dancer is performing their own styles, usually to the song of a drum, and wearing their own unique set of American Indian Clothes. There are many styles of Individual Dance. Some examples are Traditional, Grass, Straight, Old Time Sioux, Fancy, and Prairie Chicken.  Each style pf dancing has its own style of clothing, type of songs, and style of dancing.

American Indian dancing is a very fun activity, and is not hard to pick up. If you have any questions about how you can join the Group Dance team or start individual dancing, please contact the American Indian Activities Chairman or any member of the Lodge Executive Committee.

Yours in brotherhood,

Carson E.
